The recent Hampshire Education Awards 2023 included a nomination for primary teacher Sian Barlow, a graduating member of e-Q’s 2023 cohort.
Sian’s hard work and commitment to her teaching apprenticeship was recognized by her mentor, who nominated her for the award. This prompted a school visit from the Hampshire Education Awards’ panel, who spoke to Sian, her mentor and the pupils before judging the award.
The Apprenticeship category specifically recognises a teaching apprentice’s achievements, “what makes them stand out, how they inspire others and what impact the apprenticeship has had on the school”. Sian and colleagues from Fairfields School attended the awards ceremony at the Great Hall in Winchester.
e-Q Primary Subject Lead Vicki Cann commented:
“Sian has been a conscientious and ever-positive member of the Teaching Apprenticeship Programme; I have observed her teaching skills develop from strength to strength during the teacher training year. Sian’s mentor and lead trainer at Fairfields both supported her fantastically throughout her training. “
Having visited Sian in-school throughout the year, I have seen the positive impact that her apprenticeship has made in the school. I congratulate Sian on her Apprenticeship of the Year nomination, as well as her achievement of Qualified Teacher Status.
