Equalitas PGCE. Launching in 2026.
Extending professional practice through postgraduate study.
From 2026, Equalitas will offer an optional Postgraduate Certificate in Education, delivered in partnership with the University of Brighton.
The PGCE is an academic qualification that runs alongside Equalitas’ core Initial Teacher Training programmes, which lead to Qualified Teacher Status.
How the PGCE works:

For trainees who want to complement their practical training with university-accredited academic study, the optional PGCE offers an additional layer of professional and intellectual development.
Candidates apply to an Equalitas ITT programme first. Following a successful offer, trainees on either route may choose to enrol on the optional PGCE, which runs alongside the training year as a separate academic qualification delivered in partnership with the University of Brighton.
We are inviting prospective trainees and schools to register their interest in the optional PGCE ahead of its planned launch in 2026.
Submit your details to receive updates as the programme is finalised and enrolment opens.
*Full details of fees, eligibility, academic requirements, and student finance will be confirmed ahead of launch.
Why choose the PGCE?
Completing the PGCE enables trainees to gain a recognised postgraduate qualification, strengthen the link between theory and practice, developing a foundation for future academic or professional development.
The PGCE is optional and designed for trainees who wish to extend their learning beyond the core requirements for Qualified Teacher Status.
What’s coming in 2026:
"The PGCE offers trainees the opportunity to engage critically with theory while remaining grounded in classroom practice"
