Train to Teach Maths
Transformative practice
Subject specificity is at the heart of our maths training programme because we want our trainees to be able to teach their pupils through a coherent sequence of lessons with a logical progression of mathematical ideas.
Teaching this way allows pupils to transform their knowledge into a deep, sustained and connected understanding of mathematics.
Our maths teacher training programme prepares you to teach with clarity, confidence and subject integrity.
Developing Analytical Thinkers
Led by Charlotte Fell, our accredited Mathematics Subject Lead, your training focuses on both mathematical content and the pedagogy to teach it. Charlotte has a Masters in Teacher Education and over twenty years’ experience in the secondary sector, as a teacher, head of department and in senior leadership. Drawing on classroom expertise and educational research, Charlotte will help you analyse, model, and reflect on aspects such as lesson design, assessment, questioning and behaviour for learning in a mathematics-specific context.
A teacher with a thorough understanding of maths will be able to contextualise the topic they are teaching, foregrounding it with appropriate tasks, explaining where it leads and other concepts it links to. These ways of working instil mathematical habits of mind, giving pupils the maximum chance of succeeding.

Where You’ll Train
Our programme follows a blended learning model, combining in-school experience and online sessions. You are employed in a placement school for the academic year, spending four days per week teaching in school, with one training day per week.
There are 14 in-person training days, held in London’s Knowledge Quarter, with opportunities to enrich the curriculum, for example by visiting the Science Museum’s Winton Gallery for Mathematics. These dedicated days offer the space and structure to deepen subject knowledge, connect with other trainees and engage with expert-led sessions.
